What is raw Mulberry silk?
Mulberry silk is a well-known type of silk. It is harvested from the cocoons of the Bombyx mori, a famous silk butterfly. The butterfly and its worms live on an exclusive diet of mulberry leaves, hence the name mulberry silk.
"Raw silk" refers to silk yarn of which the sericine, the natural gum that protects the silk fiber, has not been removed by boiling the mulberry silk. In other words, it is in its most natural form, where the yarn used to make the silk fabric is uneven that gives the fabric a slightly coarse yet smooth texture. However, not all raw Mulberry silks are created equal. They are graded into: 6A (best quality), 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A, A, B, C, D, E, F and those not eligible to rank.
